Gozo Beaches

Gozo is the second largest island in the Maltese archipelago and, like Malta, boasts several lovely Gozo beaches which attract both visitors and locals, especially during the hot Summer months. The azure water here is crystal clear and warm for most of the year. Gozo beaches are usually smaller, more peaceful and less spoilt than those in Malta.

Ramla Bay

Ramla Bay, or Ramla l-Ħamra in Maltese, is one of the most unique beaches in Gozo, with its bright orange-red coloured sand and beautiful blue clear waters. It is set in the bottom of a valley with unspoilt wild and fertile nature. Ramla Bay, with its rocky cliffs surrounding the beautiful bay, is a very popular beach with snorkelers and families.

Ħondoq ir-Rummien

Ħondoq ir- Rummien is located below Qala, on Gozo’s southern coast. It is a very popular beach in Gozo, as the sea here is crystal clear and has a stunning azure colour. There are small caves at water level, making this cove a popular diving and snorkelling spot too. Ħondoq ir-Rummien has a small sandy and pebbly beach but the sea can also be accessed from bathing ladders. Visitors to this beach can also enjoy spectacular views of Comino. It is easiest to visit this beach with a rental car.

Xlendi Bay

Xlendi Bay is one of the most picturesque beaches in Gozo. It is situated in a charming sea inlet which lies in a lush green valley. Xlendi Bay is a popular swimming, snorkelling and diving spot. There is a small sandy beach leading into shallow waters while the more adventurous can swim and snorkel in deeper waters off the long stretch of rocks bordering the beach. Even if Xlendi Bay is one of the most popular beaches in Gozo, due to its natural beauty, it is still quite undeveloped.

Mgarr ix-Xini

This is another of the very beautiful and picturesque example of Gozo beaches. The bay is set within a creek and a steep sided natural valley. It is one of the most secluded beaches in Gozo and offers tranquility and beautiful views. There is a pebbled beach surrounded by rough and high rocks on both sides of the bay. The crystal clear water here is perfect for snorkelling and diving. There are also several intriguing caves in the cliff faces and also the nearby wreck of the ferryboat “Xlendi”, which was deliberately scuttled here. Mgarr ix-Xini is the location where Angolina Jolie and Brad Pitt shot the film “By the Sea”.
