Malta Beaches

Although a small island, it is home to picturesque Malta beaches, stunning coves and the clearest and cleanest water in the Mediterranean. A few of Malta beaches are also Blue Flag Certified, which means they adhere to standards for sustainable development, environmental management , safety and other services.

Golden Bay Beach

Golden Bay is situated on the Northwest coast of Malta. It is one of the most popular beaches in Malta and was one of the first to earn the Blue Flag status. This is a broad, golden sandy beach which offers lots of amenities and is therefore the perfect location for families. There are also lots of inlets and coves to explore around here. During the Summer months lifeguards patrol the beach and there is a system of flags to guide visitors where it is safe to swim. Golden Bay can be easily reached by public transport and it is also relatively easy to find a parking space here.

Għajn Tuffieħa Bay

Facing Golden Bay, this beach is a smaller, protected and less frequented location which can only be reached by descending a flight of steps. It is a red sand beach boasting some of the best scenery of the Maltese islands and incredible views from the surrounding cliffs. It is also a Blue Flag certified beach.

Mellieħa Bay

Mellieħa Bay, or as it is referred to locally, Għadira, is the largest sandy beach in Malta. It is a perfect beach for young children since the beach here slopes very gently into the water and it therefore stays shallow until quite far out. This beach offers many amenities and various water sports such as kayaking, water skiing and banana boating are organised here. This is another Blue Flag certified beach. Mellieħa bay is located in the North of Malta, near the village of Mellieħa, and is very easy to get to with public transport.

Ġnejna Bay

Ġnejna is a little gem of a beach, located on the West Coast of Malta, close to the rural village of Mġarr. It is much quieter then the previously mentioned beaches and allows visitors to find a peaceful spot. The sand is a rich golden colour and an area of flat rock to the right of the main beach provides an alternative for those who prefer not to stay on the sand. This is one of Malta beaches that is not so easily reached using public transport.
