Ghajn Tuffieha Beach
Ghajn Tuffieha Beach is one of three of Malta’s loveliest beaches; to the north, just over the headland, is the more well-known and developed Golden Bay, while to the south, the small Gnejna Bay is just a short walk.
During the summer, lifeguards are on duty at the beach, and swimming is typically considered safe. Ghajn Tuffieha is perhaps Malta’s best surfing beach, and strong waves can be found here, but only during the off-season.
Gajn Tuffiea, in Malta’s northwestern tip, is undoubtedly the most picturesque beach on the island. The beach is a mainly undeveloped sliver of golden-red sand bordered by gently sloping clay cliffs draped in foliage. The bay is marked by headlands on both ends; the rocky point to the north is crowned by Gajn Mixkuka Tower, one of Malta’s 17th century coastal watchtowers.
Getting to Ghajn Tuffieha requires a little more work than getting to nearby beaches, which is likely one of the reasons the beach has stayed undeveloped and uncrowded. There are around 200 steps heading down from the parking lot.
