Ramla Beach Gozo

The gorgeous and clean Ramla Beach is located on the island of Gozo’s north coast and has a blue flag award. Its full name is Ramla il-amra, which means “Red Sands” in Maltese. This relates to the beach’s rich flaming golden tone, which contrasts well with the Mediterranean’s clear blue seas.

The rocky headlands mark the vast, gently curving Ramla Bay, while the back of the beach gradually rises up into dunes dotted with bamboo and tamarisk. This is the place to go if you want to see Malta’s natural beauty and picture how it was before major tourism arrived.

There are a few areas of interest for the more restless beachgoer, aside from taking in the beauty, going for a swim in the clear shallow seas, and soaking up the sun. The big white plinth in the middle of the beach, which supports a statue of the Virgin Mary, is the most visible. This monument was erected in 1881 as a tribute to a shipwreck in the bay.

Despite its remote location and unspoiled appearance, Ramla Beach remains a popular summer destination and an attraction well worth a visit. Gozo is merely a 25-minute ferry ride and a fast bus ride away from the main island. It also has nice facilities, such as a few small cafes, making it a family-friendly location.
