Xlendi Beach
High rocky cliffs on each side lead to coastal residences and cafes, making Xlendi Beach both unusual and charming. Despite the fact that these structures are several floors tall, the community is only a few blocks away from a lovely green valley flanked by terraced farms.
On the island of Gozo’s southwest coast, the little resort community of Xlendi Beach is located in a sheltered cove. Xlendi, which was once a fishing community, is today a renowned tourist destination known for its natural harbour and little sandy beach.
Despite its small size, this sandy beach is often buzzing with activity. The shallow waters are suitable for swimming, while the clear waters along the rocky cliff edges offer excellent snorkelling for the more daring. There are a number of caverns on these cliffs, including Caroline’s Cave, where Augustinian nuns would swim away from the peasants’ gaze.
The Xlendi Tower, which overlooks the entrance to this narrow harbour, was built in the 17th century to protect the settlement from North African pirates. This is only the most obvious of a multitude of important historic elements in the area, which includes Byzantine and Roman archeological sites.
